NOMAD BEATS: Travelling the world with a sampler

I recently ditched my job to start my own company. My new life consists of travelling to many different countries, both in Europe and in Asia very often.

Travelling can be very rewarding and a beautiful experience, but being away of my family and my studio have been challenging. While I couldn’t carry my family with me on my trips, I was indeed looking for a portable studio solution.

I ended up using the PO-133, the street fighter version of the PO-33KO, a 8-bit / 23 kHz sampler. In case you’re not technical; that’s Lo-Fi as f*ck…

Simultaneously very capable and limiting, it took me a while to figure out a way to make this little machine sing in a way I could express my artistic voice.

Every single day, I made a beat.

During my trip, I visited Portugal, France, Netherlands, Austria, Germany, China and South Korea. Over my trip, I made over 30 beats, from which I had 6 I could no longer live without, and that was the basis from my new album.

Once back home, I started compiling them, mastering them, and see seem to work well together. Once recorded in the computer, it was time to make it shine. It only took a few hours to make it sound as I imagined it.

The end result, at least in my opinion, is a beautiful and quite unique beat-tape.
